Illinois State held off Southern Illinois 50-46 behind a career-high 16 points from Tony Wills. Dan Muller recorded his 100th victory as Redbird coach. Illinois State concludes the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 1 o’clock tip at Northern Iowa.
In the other Missouri Valley Conference games, Bradley defeated Missouri State 77-68, Loyola tripped Drake 80-65 and Indiana State knocked off Northern Iowa 69-59. In the Big Ten, Michigan edged Rutgers 68-64 and Minnesota beat Number 24 Maryland 89-75.
In boys high school basketball regionals, Ridgeview hammered Roanoke-Benson 52-28 at Mount Pulaski, while at LeRoy, Heyworth defeated Flanagan-Cornell 64-48 and Decatur Lutheran nipped the host Panthers 63-61. Dee-Mack lost to host Farmington 66-28. Tri-Point lost at St. Anne to the hosts 90-63.
Illinois Wesleyan has placed two players on the all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads. Junior guard Brady Rose was named to the first team while senior center Trevor Seibring earned second team honors.
Heartland Community College has named Kelly Raddar as its new head women’s soccer coach. He comes from Treasure Valley Community College in Oregon.
Central Catholic High School has tabbed Hannah Meece as the new head coach for girls’ and boys’ tennis. She played at Illinois State University and has been an assistant coach with the Saints for the past four years.
The Blackhawks host Arizona tonight.
