Sheriff points to unit's success

Between 2005 and 2009, the county’s anti-gang and drug unit has seized over $92,000 from people involved with drug transactions. Officials say the Livingston County Pro Active Unit’s largest seizure was $21,000 in cash, which was discovered inside a cooler. Speaking on the WJEZ Community Forum this week, Livingston County Sheriff Bob McCarty said he was pleased with the unit’s success and cited a number of drug arrests made over the past several years. CLICK FOR SOUND The Livingston County Pro Active Unit was formed in 2003 because of a gang-related incident at the county jail. The unit includes police officers from Pontiac, Fairbury, Dwight and the county.
