Police dog remembered
Police dog remembered
He was more than “man’s best friend.” He was a partner to Pontiac Police Major Jim Woolford. Law enforcement and public safety officers from area departments honored Pontiac’s first K-9 police dog, Lümp, during a memorial service Thursday morning at Chautauqua Park. Lump died this week after becoming ill. Woolford reflected on Lümp's life. Pontiac Police Chief Dale Newsome says Lümp had a successful career with the department, resulting in numerous arrests. Newsome says canines are considered family members and best friends, so Lümp's passing leaves a hole in everyone’s heart. Lümp started with the Pontiac Police Department in 2000 and was retired in 2005. Police from Fairbury and as far as Bloomington came to the park to pay their respects, along with firefighters, Pontiac Police officers, city officials, and members of the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.
