Officers pulled from Proactive Unit

PONTIAC - Police officers from Pontiac, Dwight and Fairbury have been pulled from the Livingston County Proactive Unit.

The mayors of Pontiac, Dwight and Fairbury are expected to meet with the Livingston County Board chair, regarding a possible suspension of an intergovernmental agreement for the anti-gang and drug unit which also consists of officers from the Sheriff’s Department.

Tourism numbers climbing for Pontiac

PONTIAC - This past week, 472 visitors were counted at the Route 66 Museum Complex and 791 people stopped at the Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum.

According to Pontiac Tourism, visitors came from 18 states and 18 different countries, including: Australia, Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Relay team raises over $1,000

PONTIAC - The Country Financial Big Hitters Relay for Life team has announced the winner of the Mother’s Day gift certificate bouquet.

Mary Maurer of Strawn won the bouquet of gift certificates valued at $600, which includes money toward various restaurants and stores in the area.

PTHS hires assistant principal

PONTIAC - The District 90 Board of Education has approved the hiring of an assistant principal at Pontiac Township High School.

PTHS Principal Jon Kilgore says Brian Hensley spent some time as a teacher and administrator.

Ag scholarship deadline approaching

PONTIAC - The application deadline for the George McKibben Memorial Scholarship is Wednesday.

The Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts is accepting applications for the scholarship, which was established to assist agriculture students in their completion of their education at any Illinois state college.

Rural Forrest home destroyed by fire

FORREST - The cause of a weekend house fire south of Forrest is undetermined.

Forrest Fire Chief Sam Schmidgall says the home, at 26397 East 400 North Road, was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and the family that lived there lost everything.

Meeting planned for Enbridge pipeline

PONTIAC - The Livingston County Farm Bureau has scheduled a public meeting on plans to expand the Enbridge pipeline from its Flanagan facility to Cushing, Oklahoma.

Livingston County Farm Bureau Manager Teresa Grant-Quick says the May 31 meeting will help answer questions landowners may have.

Prison warden placed on leave

PONTIAC - The acting warden at the Pontiac Correctional Center has been placed on administrative leave.

An Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman issued a statement on Friday morning, stating Randy Pfister is being investigated by Illinois State Police and the Livingston County State’s Attorney.

Students head to Sweden for pill program

PONTIAC - Some Pontiac Township High School students will represent the United States in Sweden this summer, during an environmental problem-solving event.

Students will depart in June for a six-day adventure to present their project on the National Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal Program, also known as P2D2.
