Department of Corrections officials continue to investigate the death of an inmate at Pontiac Correctional Center. Earlier this week, 36-year-old Fabian Carillo was found unresponsive in his cell. He later died under hospital care. The death is being treated as a homicide, and Tom Shaer, Communications Director for the IDOC, says Carillo’s cellmate has been identified as a suspect. No name has been released, but he’s a 33-year-old inmate serving a 22-year sentence for aggravated criminal sexual assault. Carillo was serving 52 years for a Chicago murder.  Shaer says there’s no evidence of a weapon having been used in the incident. An autopsy has been performed, and toxicology reports are being developed. The incident is the first homicide in Pontiac in 24 years.
