People who shop at Livingston County grocery stores are safe from the recalled Blue Bell items, which have been voluntarily recalled by the company due to listeria contamination.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on April 20, 2015, Blue Bell Creameries voluntarily recalled all of its products currently on the market made at all of its facilities, including ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, and frozen snacks. Blue Bell announced this recall after sampling conducted by the company revealed that Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream half gallons produced on March 17, 2015, and March 27, 2015, contained the bacteria.
As of April 21, a total of 10 people with listeriosis related to this outbreak have been confirmed from four states: one from Arizona, five from Kansas, one from Oklahoma and three from Texas. Three deaths were reported from Kansas.
Phone calls were made to Pontiac’s Walmart and County Market, as well as Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury and Berkot’s Super Foods in Dwight, and management for each facility confirmed they don’t carry Blue Bell products.
