Several students were recognized at the 49th annual Music Awards Banquet held Tuesday at Pontiac Township High School.
Outstanding musicians and seniors were honored for contributions to the music department and summer camp scholarships were presented on behalf of the music boosters.
Junior, Logan Mies, was also awarded a scholarship for his participation at the University of Wisconsin Summer Music Camp this summer. Peg Meier was also honored for her 24 years of service to the music department at the school.
Other winners for the evening include Brandi Mueller, Andrea Araujo, Aubrey Gill, Olivia Welshans, Kevin Kuska and Mariah Chanady for the Music Booster Camp Scholarship; Caitlynn Rickets, Aubrey Gill, Tatum Joerndt, Alex Coan, Jessica Ping, Brandi Mueller, Noah White, Ethan Putnam, Kevin Kuska and Baylee Ritter for outstanding class musicians; Grace Lyons won the John Phillip Sousa Award and Cody Hatzer won the National Choral Award; and Erica Crane, Brenda Shaughnessy, Danielle Gill, Amy Duffy and Candice Vilt were recognized as Music Boosters officers.
The featured guest speaker for the evening was Barry Houser, director of the Marching Illini at the University of Illinois-Champaign.
