Representative Tom Bennett stopped by to give constituents an update on what’s going on in Springfield.
Bennett said things have been hectic but good lately in the Illinois House. Four bills he worked on were sent from the House to the Senate recently involving Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, open meetings act, accent lighting on motorcycles and protection for individuals in nursing homes.
Bennett is also listening to constituents about workman’s comp reform.
“Last week, Speaker Madigan had a full day of hearings on workman’s comp,” Bennett said. “We had a number of people come throughout the day. We listened to a number of people speak about their situations and the conditions they’re under. We also listened to businesses come talk about the need for reform for workman’s comp, and I think we do.”
These last two weeks, Bennett said, have picked up even more and he’s learning lessons about politics he hadn’t learned yet in his four months in office.
“This is the political part of this I’m learning about,” Bennett said. “We’re working through it but we need to find ways to find solutions and include the committee process, instead of just trying to make a political statement.”
Bennett will be checking in with WJEZ News from time to time in the future to let listeners know what exactly is happening in Springfield.
