Have Your Voice Heard About Mammography Guidelines

OSF

OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center is encouraging women to let their voices be heard about proposed mammography changes.

These guidelines are being proposed by the US Preventative Task Force, which may cause insurance companies to change the way they cover those screenings.

Currently, recommendation for mammography is every year, beginning at age 40. Those supporting that guideline include entities such as the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, among others.

The new proposal recommends screening mammograms every other year, beginning at age 50 through 74.

OSF is encouraging women to visit the US Preventative Task Force website and give their opinions about the proposed changes.

To comment on the proposed changes visit http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/comment/collect/index/recommendationstatementdraft/breast-cancer-screening1.

Deadline for comments is May 18.
