An agreement between the City of Pontiac and Pontiac Police Officer Daron Bagnell was reached Wednesday. This decision came during a discipline hearing after Bagnell was found not guilty of obstruction of justice charges following a 2013 McLean County motorcycle accident.
Pontiac Police Chief Jim Woolford said the Police and Fire Commission agreed to dismiss charges by June 3, given all provisions of the agreement have been met. Bagnell also faces a 10-day suspension within the department, which began Thursday, and he also voluntarily resigned his rank of Corporal and will return at the end of his suspension as a patrolman.
In a press release from Woolford, he stated, “The City of Pontiac is satisfied with the resolution of this mater and now turns its attention to the reintegration of Officer Daron Bagnell, after an extended period away from patrol duty. That plan includes training, qualification and certification requirements which are already underway.”
