The Livingston County Farm Bureau Young Leaders will be hosting their adopted classroom from Calmeca Academy of Dual Language and Fine Arts in Chicago Tuesday at Kilgus Dairy Farm in Fairbury and Blunier Hog Farm in Forrest.

Jody Hughes, Livingston County Farm Bureau manager, said the group has been working with these classes for about 12 years. Sometimes the Young Leaders go to the schools, and at times like this, the students come to the farms.

“That first time they get the whiff of the hogs – not always the most pleasant experience for them, but they get used to it quickly,” Hughes said. “I just love to watch their faces, listen to their commentary and their questions and get their questions answered for them.”

Hughes said this program is to help connect the students to where their food comes from.
