The Livingston County Special Services Unit has helped start the Parent Empowerment Group.
Caryl McCoy, program supervisor for the LCCSU, said the group is made up of parents of disabled children looking for networking and socialization for both them and their families. She said there is a need in the county for adaptive recreation for all people with disabilities from ages 3 to 22 and beyond.
McCoy states, “Beyond graduation from high school at age 22 there is a lack of recreation, socialization, work opportunities, so we need something to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.”
The Parent Empowerment Group meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. For more information, contact the LCCSU at 815-844-7115.
