With much of this part of the state dealing with heavy rainfall in the past week, tips are being passed along to help people deal with the potential of flooding.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources remind residents that flooding may cause dangerous situations for motorists.
They ask people to never attempt to drive through flooded roads and seek higher ground if your vehicle stalls in a flooded area.
Additional safety tips include avoiding skin contact with sewer water, not eating or drinking anything exposed to sewer water and washing hands frequently.
The official rainfall total for Pontiac is four inches from Friday morning through Wednesday morning. The Vermilion River is measuring just more than 6.5 feet – well below the flood stage of 14 feet.
