Use of medical marijuana closer for some patients

Sufferers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be able to legally apply for medical marijuana cards to begin use for treatment.

Medical marijuana has yet to be legally prescribed, delivered, or ingested in Illinois, but the drive continues to add to the list of eligible ailments.

The legislature has sent Governor Bruce Rauner a bill, whose mission is to add PTSD to that list.

The House decided to go ahead and give Rauner the bill, rather than continue to argue whether people with pot prescriptions should be prohibited from owning firearms.

“There’s no other legal pharmaceutical in Illinois that a patient could take that would require their FOID (Firearm Owners’ Identification) card to be taken away from them,” said the sponsor, State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie), during the final debate.

The bill waits for approval by Rauner.
