After 20 years in the works, Pontiac’s band shell is now becoming a reality at Humiston-Riverside Park.
Pontiac Mayor Bob Russell said the idea of the band shell came a long time ago, but serious planning and funding ideas really picked up in the last two years.
The shell is funded by four different entities, including the Humiston Trust, Yost Trust, Tax Increment Funding and one other place, which Russell said came from a single donor.
“John McGlasson contacted me and said ‘In honor of my late wife, Judy McGlasson, I would like to donate $100,000 to get the band shell started,’” Russell said. “John’s wife Judy was the former county clerk here and she loved the band, so we decided to go forward with this.”
While Russell said while the city anticipates the shell will be finished soon, with the setbacks caused by the amount of rain the area experienced this summer, there may be one performance there this year, with more to come next year.
