Construction of Pontiac’s new train depot is set to begin soon.

During Monday night’s Pontiac City Council meeting, some final adjustments were made to exactly when and how this new addition would be made, and Mayor Bob Russell explained that a new agreement had to be made now that bids have been made.

“We signed the original agreement with IDOT. It was an estimated cost and now that the bids are in, the new agreement was revised to reflect the actual cost. It’s $2.65 million to build the depot. That’s all cost being paid by IDOT and the railroad. Federal and state funding are going to be paying for it,” Russell said.

The new depot will be near the intersection of Water and Vermilion streets.
