The Livingston County Overdose Awareness Memorial Event 5K and Kids Fun Run is happening in Fairbury Saturday.

The day starts with registration at 8 a.m. at North Park, followed by free kids activities, food, music and guest speakers.

Brandy Pekarovich, one of the event organizers, said these events are an effort to spread the word on the dangers of drugs.

“In our community, the drug of choice is heroin, and it’s on the rise. There needs to be more awareness about this,” Pekarovich said.
