The Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding motorcyclists to take necessary steps to ensure their safety and “Gear Up-Ride Smart.”

This is an annual campaign that urges riders to take precautionary measures, like using proper safety gear, before getting on the back of a bike.

Illinois also offers free motorcycle training classes to licensed residents through the Cycle Rider Safety Training Program, which is paid for by a portion of motorcycle license and registration fees.
