Several classes at Pontiac Township High School will dedicate and honor the lives of seven previously unknown Civil War veterans and their tombstones this morning from 7:50 to 9.

The original project started ten years ago to study the effects of human impact and acid rain on gravestones. Two years ago, the group was approached to research unreadable tombstones in Odell. Since, the students have not only identified the veterans, but also obtained new granite tombstones for those veterans.

Other portions of the ceremony will include the presentation of the regimental flag to one of the soldier’s living descendants and music selections from the PTHS music department.
