The Illinois State Police is warning residents of another phone scam currently circulating through the state.
Individuals have been reporting receiving phone calls from people claiming to be with the Illinois Police or ISP, then either ask for a donation or claim there is a warrant out for their arrest and say you need to send money.
The caller ID may say “Illinois Police” or “Illinois State Police” and the phone number associated with the call is usually 618-855-0185, but scammers have the ability to change numbers.
State Police said they will never solicit money on behalf of the department and you not to send money for any reason. Police encourage those that believe they have been a victim of the phone scam to call 800-243-0618 and report it to the office of the Illinois Attorney General.
