Students at Pontiac Township High School have been working on legislation with Rep. Tom Bennett to encourage the residents of the State to recycle thin-film plastic products in order to keep these products out of landfills and to better protect the environment.
On Tuesday, the Illinois House adopted House Resolution 1139 dealing with “Recycle Thin Film Friday.”
“This resolution was put together by a number of students at the high school level, along with their teacher, Paul Ritter. They are with us today. They helped write this and put it together. So, this is actually an effort and process to help them understand the political process in how things come together, of how resolutions and bills come together and how they’re voted on in committee and how they’re voted on here on the House floor as well. So they worked very hard on this and it has taken us several months. This is something very near and dear to their heart,” Bennett said, addressing the House floor.
