The 10th annual Bandit Run will be making its way to Pontiac next Wednesday, bringing with it more than 100 classic Pontiac Trans Ams.
This event originated in 2007 as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the film “Smokey and the Bandit.” Pontiac Tourism Director Ellie Alexander explained just what is happening once the crew makes it to Pontiac on their trek from Sandusky, Ohio, to Le Claire, Iowa.
“There’s a replica of the semi truck and the Burford T. Justice police car. We’re going to parade them into town at approximately 4:15 or 4:30. They’ll be spending time around town, then around 6:00 we’ll move the festivities to the Humiston Riverside Park. We really want to have a great turnout because it’s an honor they’re making Pontiac a stop,” Alexander said.
When the activities are moved to Humiston Riverside Park, and for $10, people can enjoy a meal prepared by the Pontiac Kiwanis Club, with a performance of “Life is a Highway” by the Vermillion Players following at the Judy McGlasson Band Shell.
