Last Thursday, 106 inner city Chicago fourth grade students visited Livingston County to get a first-hand look at agriculture.
The Livingston County Farm Bureau Young Leaders adopted three fourth grade classes at Calmeca Academy of Fine arts and Dual Language in the Pilsen district of Chicago for the last six years and regularly invite them to tour and learn about Livingston County farms.
Students spent the day at Blunier Farms in Forrest and Kilgus Dairy Farm in Fairbury, and Kent Blunier said it was and enjoyable day for both the students and adults.
“It’s great to watch the kids come in. They act like they’re overwhelmed by the smell to start off with, and as they get looking around at the different things, they forget about the smell really quick. I’m just really happy to be a part of it. It teaches the students just as much as it teaches the adults,” Blunier said.
