An early Saturday morning fire destroyed the inside of Chief City Vapor at 629 W. Howard Street in Pontiac.

According to the Pontiac Fire Department, they were on scene of this concrete block structure at 2 a.m., with assistance from Saunemin, Fairbury and Flanagan fire departments, while the Odell department manned Pontiac’s station. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature, according to Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon.

Tom Roe, the store’s owner, said this fire isn’t going to set back the business, which has been around for nearly three years.

“We’re always going to be here from this community. There’s nothing that’s going to be able to stop us from being there for them. We’re a company they can rely on and know that we will always be there for them,” Roe said.

Roe said they are holding a fundraiser Saturday at their Metamora vapor shop, with a bake sale the following day at Pontiac’s shop with the hopes of raising enough money to reopen the building in 30 days.
