One man has been arrested in connection with the early Saturday morning fire that gutted Chief City Vapor in Pontiac.
According to Pontiac Police Major Dan Davis, officers were flagged down after a resident noticed smoking coming from the business, located at 629 W. Howard Street. While fire departments responded, a broken window was discovered at the business. Shortly afterwards, officers found 34-year-old Brian Birge walking around nearby. Birge allegedly had recent cuts to his hands and was in possession of property from Chief City Vapor.
Birge was subsequently arrested for arson, burglary, criminal damage to property and possession of burglary tools.
This incident remains under investigation with formal charges pending.
