The CornBelters have won four of their last five games and two straight series after a 2-0 victory over Washington. Max Homick didn’t allow a hit through his first five innings and faced two above the minimum in his 6 2/3 innings. Ty Morris homered for the Belters. The Frontier League East-leading Windy City ThunderBolts visit the Corn Crib for a weekend series. Tonight’s series opener is on WJBC.com at 6:20 with a 6:35 first pitch.

The Cardinals took Thursday off to return home as they begin a three-game weekend series against the Giants. It’s on AM 1230 WJBC at 6:20 as right-handers Johnny Cueto for the Giants and Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals will be on the mound.

The White Sox also had the day off as they visit Detroit for a weekend series. Lefty Carlos Rodon starts for the Sox while the Tigers counter with 7-2 Jordan Zimmermann.

The Cubs used four home runs to beat the Dodgers 7-2. Kyle Hendricks picked up the win working eight innings giving up three hits. The Diamondbacks visit Wrigley Field this afternoon to begin a weekend series against the Cubs. Archie Bradley goes for the Snakes as Jon Lackey starts for the Cubs, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals goes to the Golden State Warriors 104-89 over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Peoria’s Shaun Livingston came off the bench to lead the Warriors with 20 points.

Illinois and Northwestern will be part of a basketball doubleheader in Chicago in December. Illinois will face Brigham Young and Northwestern will take on Dayton on December 17th in the inaugural State Farm Chicago Legends at the United Center.
