The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the work at the Ladd and Reynolds street railroad crossing in Pontiac will begin Monday.
The work includes installation of storm sewers, new curb and gutters, raising the intersection, asphalt resurfacing and signal work at the tracks.
Reynolds Street will be closed from the west side of the tracks to Howard Street beginning July 5, and the Illinois Department of Transportation anticipates the closure will reopen by Labor Day.
The bulk of the work at that intersection is anticipated to be completed by Thanksgiving, with only minimal work happening next spring.
Traffic will be detoured around the project on Route 116, and Ladd, Washington, Madison and Vermillion Streets.
