The Hooked Together Charity Challenge kicks off this evening at 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Deerfield Road in Pontiac.

Kathy Rygh, one of the event organizers, was a guest on a recent community forum and explained the group’s mission.

“We came up with the idea to come up with the idea of ‘lap-ghans’ and prayer shawls for every nursing home resident in Pontiac for this Christmas. It started out as a couple people wanted to crochet, and now we’ve been meeting for two years. So, we’re looking for people to join us. Anyone who knits or crochets is welcome to come,” Rygh said.

The group will be making crochet or knit squares from this evening through December 3, when they come together to connect the squares, before giving the finished items to every nursing home resident in Livingston County. This event is open to the public.
