The State of Illinois has done away with PARCC testing in high schools after two years and has now decided to combine SATs for both college entrance, as well as assessments for 11th graders.
PARCC, which stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, has been highly controversial with administrators, teachers and students alike, and Jon Kilgore, superintendent of Pontiac District 90, sees it as a positive move.
“The fact that we now have a statewide assessment that also serves as a college entrance exam is something that is very good for us by alleviating overt testing and also giving some opportunity for students to have some incentive to do their best on those exams,” Kilgore said.
Third through eighth graders will continue the PARCC testing in reading and math.
