We’re back to baseball after the All-Star break. The Cardinals host the Marlins this evening with a 7:15 first pitch at Busch Stadium. Lefties Wei-Yin Chen for the Fish and Jaime Garcia for the Cardinals are on the mound. Cardinals network pre-game begins at 6:20 on AM 1230 WJBC.
The Cubs resume play with a big series against the Texas Rangers this afternoon at Wrigley Field. Lefty Martin Perez goes for the Rangers against Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks.
The White Sox are in Anaheim late tonight with right-hander Miguel Gonzalez for the South Siders against Angels lefty Hector Santiago.
The CornBelters come out of their All-Star break with a weekend trip to Chicago’s south suburbs as they face the Windy City ThunderBolts in a three-game series. The Chiefs swept a doubleheader from the Lansing Lugnuts, winning the opener 3-2 on a walk-off error and taking the nightcap 1-0 despite being no-hit. That’s only the fourth time in Midwest League history that the winning team was no-hit.

Heartland Community College has named new head coaches. Brian Furlong takes over the Hawks baseball program, coming from Creighton University where was pitching coach and director of baseball operations. Jonathan Titzel heads Hawks men’s soccer from the Midwest Reign Soccer Club in Bloomington and was formerly an assistant coach at Illinois Wesleyan University.
