More than half of the Cardinals’ outs were strikeouts–15 in all–in a 6-3 loss to the Marlins. That’s a season high for the Cardinals. Miami’s Ichiro Suzuki recorded three hits and is six short of 3,000 for his career. The Cardinals start a four-game series at Busch Stadium tonight against the San Diego Padres. Lefty Christian Friedrich starts for the Friars against Cardinals right-hander Mike Leake. Cards network pre-game on AM 1230 WJBC begins at 6:20.

The Rangers beat the Cubs 4-1 as it’s apparent that Cole Hamels likes Wrigley Field. Hamels pitched eight strong innings for the Rangers one year after throwing a no-hitter against the Cubs while he was with the Phillies. The Cubs host the Mets tonight.

The Angels beat the White Sox 8-1 as the South Side’s offensive terrors continue in their fourth straight loss. The Sox have scored only one run in those four losses. The White Sox visit Seattle tonight as lefties Chris Sale for Chicago and Seattle’s Wade LeBlanc duel on the mound.

A ninth-inning CornBelters rally fell short in an 8-6 loss at Windy City. The Belters take today off and begin a brief three-game homestand Tuesday against the Schaumburg Boomers.

The Chiefs beat Great Lakes 5-2. The series with the Loons continues at noon today at Dozer Park.

The golf world is buzzing about yesterday’s final round of the British Open as Henrik Stenson outduel Phil Mickelson to win by three strokes. Stenson finished at 20-under 264, a total scoring record for a major tournament, and his final round 63 tied Johnny Miller. The Open win is Stenson’s first major championship and Mickelson finishes as a major runner-up for the 11th time.

Matt Kenseth won his second Sprint Cup race of the season and 38th of his career by pulling away at the end for the victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The United States has been eliminated by Croatia in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
