The Cardinals slammed the Padres 10-2. St. Louis starter Mike Leake became the 10th pitcher in MLB history to strike out 10 or more hitters without a walk and one run or less in two straight starts. Former Cardinals scouting director Chris Correa was sentenced to 46 months in prison for hacking into the Houston Astros database. He must also pay $279,000 restitution to the Astros. He pleaded guilty to five charges in January.

The Cubs beat the Mets 5-1 in a rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series. Anthony Rizzo fouled off five straight 2-2 pitches before driving a three-run homer to break the game open. All-Star right-handers Noah Syndergaard and Jake Arrieta square off on the mound today.

The Mariners beat the White Sox 4-3 on a walk-off three-run pinch-hit home run by Adam Lind. Chris Sale allowed only one hit over eight innings and 100 pitches but gave way to closer David Robertson in the ninth:

The CornBelters are back after a Monday off for a brief three-game homestand against the Schaumburg Boomers. The Chiefs beat the Great Lakes Loons 4-3 in 11 innings in a matinee at Dozer Park.

Three Thunder players have been chosen for Team USA in the Five Nations tournament, more than any other USHL team. Calen Kiefiuk, Brady Smith and Jeremy Davidson will be on the USA squad in the tournament next month in Dallas.

Illinois Wesleyan University has the Man and Woman of the Year in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Max Leonard and Jill Harmon are both track and field athletes and will represent the CCIW in the NCAA national program.

The Bulls won the NBA summer league with an 84-82 overtime win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on a buzzer-beater from Denzel Valentine.
