The Cardinals and Padres never got started, so it’s a day-night doubleheader at Busch Stadium today. It’s the final trip to St. Louis for the Padres. We’re on at 12:20 and 6:20 on AM 1230 WJBC. Colin Rea versus Carlos Martinez in the opener, Paul Clemens against Jaime Garcia in the nightcap.

The Cubs encountered Familia territory. The Mets went ahead in the top of the ninth and closer Jeurys Familia got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom to beat the Cubs 2-1.   Bartolo Colon against Kyle Hendricks this afternoon at Wrigley Field.

The White Sox broke a five-game losing streak with a 6-1 win at Seattle. Melky Cabrera broke a tie with a lead-off homer in the seventh and Todd Frazier added his 27th big fly with a two-run drive in the ninth. Miguel Gonzalez against Felix Hernandez tonight in Seattle.

The CornBelters were rained out against Schaumburg. The Belters and Boomers will play two tonight at the Corn Crib beginning at 5:35, 5:20 on WJBC.com.

Illinois State men’s basketball coach Dan Muller has promoted Luke Yaklich to associate head coach. Yaklich is from LaSalle-Peru and has worked with Muller for the past three seasons.

Illinois Wesleyan softball coach Kat McCreery has resigned because her family is moving. McCreery led the Titans to NCAA appearances in each of her three seasons at her alma mater.

The Cardinals have placed Jhonny Peralta on the 15-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his right thumb. That’s the digit he had surgically repaired, causing him to miss the first 57 games of the season.

Tiger Woods will miss all four majors in one season for the first time in his career. The PGA Championship confirms Woods won’t be playing in this month’s event in New Jersey.

The top overall seed in the men’s NCAA basketball tournament will be able to pick its first and second round and regional sites. The NCAA says that perk will be an incentive.
