The Cardinals tied the game in the eighth and walked off with a 6-5 win in the ninth over the Padres on a single by Aledmys Diaz. The Cardinals host the Dodgers tonight with right-handers going on the mound, Brandon McCarthy for the Dodgers and Michael Wacha for the Cards. Cards network pre-game is at 6:20 on AM 1230 WJBC.

The White Sox lost a rain-shortened game 2-1 to the Tigers. Rains hit just before the bottom of the seventh and the game was called after a two-hour delay. The teams square off again tonight on the South Side as Michael Fulmer throws for the Tigers and the Sox give the ball to Jacob Turner.

The Cubs took Thursday off and visit Milwaukee tonight. Right-handers Jason Hammel for the Cubs and Jimmy Nelson for the Brewers are the scheduled starters on the mound.

The CornBelters beat Schaumburg 8-1 behind eight solid innings from Charlie Gillies on the hill and three RBIs from Aaron Dudley. The Belters begin a six-game road trip tonight in the western suburbs of Cleveland against the Lake Erie Crushers. Hear it live on WJBC.com with a 5:50 pre-game.

The Chiefs lost at West Michigan 6-4.

The NBA has followed through on its threat and has pulled next season’s All-Star Game out of Charlotte due to its objections to a North Carolina law limiting anti-discrimination protection for lesbian, gay and transgender people. The league says the new location will be announced soon.

Russia lost its appeal of a ban of its track and field athletes from the Rio Olympics over doping allegations. The International Olympic Committee is expected to rule soon on the entire Russian delegation’s Olympic eligibility.

National Hall of Fame sportswriter and Illinois Wesleyan University alum Dave Kindred has donated a wealth of materials documenting his 50-year career as a sportswriter to the University’s archives. Much of the work is related to his writings on Muhammad Ali.
