A special dedication ceremony for the new murals in Fairbury is happening Saturday at 11 in Fairbury’s Central Park.
Dale Maley, Fairbury historian who was a part of the project, describes the murals.
“The first one would be the TP&W Railroad, because that’s why the town was founded. Then coal mining, which was an early thing that drove the growth of Fairbury, then the third one is Francis Townsend, who was kind of the father of the Social Security program. The fourth one is the Fairbury Fair and Racetrack and the last one, I picked John Virgin, because he was an internationally-known horse trader/businessman, and he was also appointed by the governor to do the agricultural exhibits for the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair,” Maley said.
The public is invited to this program, which will include a presentation and refreshments. The rain date for this event is August 13.
