Mental Health First Aid Course offered at St. James

OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center is hosting a free Mental Health First Aid Course, happening Wednesday, August 10, from 8 to 5.

This event is a collaboration between the Livingston County Mental Health Board, East Central Illinois Area Health Education Center, Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services and OSF Saint James.

Kena Dunlap, Director of Behavioral Health at Gibson Area Hospital and Health Services, will be leading this class, gives people an idea of what the class offers.

“So what it does is it gives us a better understanding of the symptoms and risk factors for mental illness. It also gives a better understanding of self help and resources for those with mental illness. It also allows for improved confidence for the participants for how to respond when they do come in contact with a person who is in distress,” Dunlap said.
