The Cardinals lost 7-4 to the Reds, who rallied in the eighth for the win. The Cards end a six-game homestand tonight in the series finale.

The White Sox won at Kansas City 7-5 in 10 innings.

The CornBelters tied the game with a fifth-inning home run by Santiago Chirino but didn’t put another runner on base as the Southern Illinois Miners won the series opener 4-3. The rematch is tonight in Marion at 7:05.

The Chiefs won at Cedar Rapids 8-6.

In the Rio Olympics, U.S. women’s gymnastics took the team gold, in the pool Michael Phelps earned his 20th and 21st gold medals as Katie Ledecky won the 200 free, U.S. women’s soccer took a sloppy 2-2 draw with Colombia and will face Sweden in the quarterfinals on Friday, and number one Serena Williams was eliminated in the third round of tennis.

Illinois Wesleyan has named former Illinois State player and IWU assistant Tiffany Prager as head softball coach and Benjamin Stone as men’s tennis coach.

Illinois Wesleyan volleyball has been picked to win the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in the pre-season coaches’ poll.

The New Orleans Saints have signed former Illinois State long snapper Chris Highland to their 90-man pre-season roster.
