School will be starting soon for students of all ages and IHR is looking to help parents and children adjust to the big change.
Joe Vaughan, executive director of IHR was a guest on a recent Community Forum, where he gave some tips to help with “back to school” nerves.
“Spend some time with them. Talk to them about what they’re nervous about. That’s another good thing you can do is just open up a discussion with them – what are you nervous about? Let’s talk about what makes you nervous and let’s find some solutions to deal with some of those things. If you can get that on the table, it eases both the child and the parent. As parents, we usually worry about things that kids usually don’t worry about, so if we can have that discussion, it will ease our anxiety as well,” Vaughan said.
