A car versus ambulance accident Monday afternoon took one to the hospital.

According to Pontiac Police, a Duffy Ambulance Service rig driven by Daniel Gonder was headed south on Route 66 with lights and sirens activated while responding to an emergency call. Gonder slowed for the red light at Reynolds Street before proceeding into the intersection before colliding with a car driven east on Reynolds Street by Charito Cromie. While Cromie had a green light, she said she didn’t see or hear the ambulance until the moment of impact, as she was receiving a phone call on her blue tooth unit in her vehicle at the time of the accident and witnesses said there were several cars that may have obscured her view.

Cromie was taken to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, where she was treated and released. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Cromie was found to be at fault for this accident.
