The Cardinals beat the Astros 8-2 as Carlos Martinez took a no-hitter into the sixth and Jeremy Hazelbaker and Brandon Moss homered. The Cardinals are off today before beginning a weekend series on Friday in Philadelphia.
The Cubs topped the Brewers 6-1 as Jorge Soler hit a three-run homer and David Ross contributed a solo drive. The Cubs finish the homestand this afternoon with Zach Davies against Jake Arrieta on the mound.
The White Sox surged past the Indians 10-7 with a five-run ninth-inning rally capped by a grand slam from Adam Eaton. The Sox finish the set in Cleveland tonight with Carlos Rodon against Danny Salazar on the hill.
The CornBelters split a doubleheader at Florence, dropping the opener 13-3 and winning the nightcap 6-3. The Belters increased their lead for the final wild card spot over Gateway to two games. The series and brief road trip concludes tonight at 6:05 Central, 5:50 on WJBC.com.
The Chiefs fell to Cedar Rapids 4-1.
On the Olympics stage, Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin went 1-2-3 in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, the first time the USA has taken gold, silver and bronze in the same event.
Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross earned a bronze for the USA in beach volleyball.
USA men’s basketball surged past Argentina 105-78 and will face Spain in Friday’s semifinal.
