Pontiac cross country finished fourth in the Gardner Panther Invitational at Dwight Country Club. The Indians’ Nate Durham finished third.

Pontiac volleyball lost to IVC 25-12, 25-19.

Pontiac girls swimming fell to Normal West 120-60.

Illinois Wesleyan volleyball won its seventh straight match with a four-set win at Chicago. The Titans host Webster on Thursday.

Illinois State’s Paige Jarsombeck is the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Former Bloomington Edge linebacker Ameer Ismail is the team’s new head coach. Ismail played for the Edge in 2012 and was the Indoor Football League’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year that season. He was the Spokane Empire’s defensive coordinator last season as the expansion team went all the way to the United Bowl before falling to the Sioux Falls Storm.

Today’s final round of the Illinois Senior Amateur Golf Tournament at Bloomington Country Club finds three local players on the leaderboard including Ed Colloton of Hudson tied for fifth, Brad Barker of Bloomington eighth and Tom Kearfoot of Hudson tied for 12th. Taylorville’s Dave Ryan leads the field by four strokes.
The Cardinals beat the Cubs 4-2 behind two-run homers from Brandon Moss and newly-reactivated Aledmys Diaz. The Cubs’ magic number to clinch the National League Central remains at three, meaning they’ll have to wait until they come home this weekend to possibly celebrate the crown. The Cardinals are now a half-game behind the Mets for the second wild card spot. The rubber game and series finale is this afternoon as lefty Jon Lester starts for the Cubs against Cardinals lefty Carlos Martinez.

The White Sox cranked out an 8-1 win over the Indians behind a seven-run sixth inning. Todd Frazier and Carlos Sanchez each drove in a pair of runs in the big frame and Jose Quintana threw eight innings while giving up just five hits. The teams meet again tonight on the South Side with a pitching match-up of Indians righty Josh Tomlin against Sox lefty Carlos Rodon.
