Week 4 of the high school football schedule dominates the Friday night sports landscape. Pontiac visits Mahomet-Seymour live on WJEZ-FM 98.9. Other Corn Belt Conference games include IVC at Prairie Central and Olympia at Central Catholic.
Dwight hosts Clifton Central in a Sangamon Valley Conference tilt. Heart of Illinois Conference games include Fisher at Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland, Heyworth at Tremonth, LeRoy at GCMS, Ridgeview-Lexington at Tri-Valley, Eureka at Fieldcrest and a battle of 3-0 teams in Mackinaw as Dee-Mack hosts El Paso-Gridley.
In non-conference play, U-High travels to Quincy Notre Dame and Rantoul visits Bloomington. Big Twelve Conference highlights include rivals Normal West at Normal Community in the annual Chili Bowl.
U-High boys golf won the Livingston County Invitational behind a medalist round of 73 from Dallas Koth. Prairie Central finished third with Hawk Karson Kafer tying for third with a 75. Normal Community won the girls Livingston County Invitational as Pontiac’s Ali Schrock and Normal Community’s Allison Enchelmayer tied for medalist with 81.
The Bloomington Thunder dropped a 3-2 decision to Muskegon in their first action in the USHL Fall Classic exhibition in Pittsburgh. The Thunder continue in the Classic today against Madison and tomorrow against Dubuque, both at 9 a.m. on WJBC.com.
The Cardinals lost to the Giants last night 6-2, which clinched the National League Central Division title for the Cubs, who lost earlier to the Brewers 5-4 and missed a chance to clinch on their own. The Cubs continue the series with the Brewers this afternoon at Wrigley Field as Chase Anderson faces John Lackey on the hill. The Cardinals hook up with the Giants again late tonight out west as Luke Weaver faces Matt Moore in the pitching match-up.
The White Sox beat the Indians 2-1 to end the homestand. The Sox are in Kansas City this evening as Chris Sale duels Ian Kennedy.
The Jets beat the Bills 37-31 behind 100 rushing yards and three touchdowns from former Bear Matt Forte.
Number 17 Illinois Wesleyan volleyball earned a four-set home win over Webster.
Illinois State volleyball opens Missouri Valley Conference play tonight at Northern Iowa. It’s part of the Panther Invitational at Cedar Falls.
