Pontiac girls volleyball lost in two sets to U-High but was a success off the court, raising nearly $1,500 to fight cancer in their Volley for a Cure night.

The Blue Jays advanced with drama in the American League Wild Card game with a 5-2 win over the Orioles on a three-run homer by Edwin Encarnacion in the bottom of the 11th inning. The Blue Jays advance to the American League Division Series against the Rangers.
The National League Wild Card is decided tonight in New York as the Mets host the Giants. Madison Bumgarner is on the hill for the Giants against the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard. The winner faces the Cubs in the National League Division Series beginning Friday night at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs’ pitching rotation is set for the NLDS. Jon Lester starts the opener with Kyle Hendricks in Game 2, Jake Arrieta in Game 3 and John Lackey if necessary in Game 4.
Illinois Wesleyan volleyball scored a four-set win over Carroll.
Titan women’s soccer edged North Park 2-1.
Normal Community boys golf won the Class 3A regional at Moline as the Ironmen’s Rob Wuethrich carded a 71 to take medalist honors.
Central Catholic took second and third in the Class 2A golf regional at Prairie Vista in Bloomington to advanced to next week’s sectional at Metamora. Champaign Central won the regional.
U-High won the boys Class 2A golf Richwoods regional led by medalist Dallas Koth.
El Paso-Gridley won its own Class 1A boys golf regional.

Golfing greats from around world gathered to paid tribute to Arnold Palmer at a memorial service in his hometown of Latrobe, Pa. Palmer died last week at the age of 87 and last Thursday a private funeral was held. In the public farewell Jack Nicklaus, his voice cracking as a large tear formed in his left eye, urged everyone to remember how Palmer touched their lives and implored them to, “please don’t forget why.”
