The United Way of Livingston County has a hefty goal aside from their fundraising goal this year – they’re looking to collect one million pennies.

Executive director Deb Howard explains how they got the idea to do the Penny Campaign

“This year, we decided to try to raise some extra funds, and we thought the way to do it was with a Penny Campaign. So we’re trying to collect a million pennies throughout Livingston County and there’s no reason we can’t do this. Everybody has change in the bottom of their purse, in the ash tray of their car, in their desk drawer – everybody has change all over. Bring it to us and we will put it to good use,” Howard said.

Howard said people can take their pennies to the Majik Bean Café, State Bank of Saunemin, First Financial Bank, Bank of Pontiac, State Bank of Graymont, Streator Onized Credit Union and right here at the WJEZ studios.
