Clown sightings have been popping up all over the United States since mid-August, but it’s not just sightings, but threats of violence.
WJEZ is addressing this whole phenomenon in a three part series. Last time, we discussed what could happen if someone decides to dress up as a clown solely to terrorize others. Today, Pontiac Police Major Dan Davis talks about what could happen if someone chooses to make a false police report of dressing up as a clown and making threats of violence.
“The police department is going to respond to and investigate every call we receive and if it turns out to where someone is making a false police report just to see if the police will come there and look for clowns hiding or trespassing when they know this is an unsubstantiated call, then yes, they are putting themselves in significant jeopardy of being charged with filing a false police report, which, in Illinois, is a Class 4 felony,” Davis said.
This series will continue next week with explaining how to differentiate between people dressing up as Clowns with Halloween very near and those who are doing it solely to terrorize others.
