WJEZ joined in McDonald’s Sip and Seek contest last Thursday to give listeners a chance to win free McCafe coffee for a year, and the winner chose to donate his winnings.

Cat and Cynthia were waiting at the Historic Livingston County Courthouse all morning with a three-foot tall McCafe cup, and when the winner showed up, he said he wanted to donate the coffee to a worthy cause. The Livingston County Humane Society was the lucky winner, and received its winnings Tuesday.

Karen Gregory was joined by McDonald’s Kyle Johanssen and both had a lot to say about the donation.

“The anonymous winner decided he would like to donate the coffee to the Humane Society in Livingston County. So we gathered packets of fresh coffee grounds of our McCafe Coffee that can be brewed anywhere and donated them to the humane society, so all the volunteers can have delicious McCafe coffee at all times,” Johanssen said. Gregory added, “I think it’s amazing. I think it’s amazing the way the community completely embraces the shelter here. I think the most amazing thing of all is in a small community, having these large groups like McDonald’s and different organizations that the children are in, reaching out and helping us because they know what we are trying to do.”

The Sip and Seek contest is in conjunction with McDonald’s Buy One, Give One McCafe Coffee for our Military program.
