The Fighting Illini had little trouble with Division II McKendree with a 112-65 victory at State Farm Center. Jalen Coleman-Lands and Maverick Morgan each contributed 18 points for the Illini. The Illini host Detroit on Friday in the NIT Season Tip-off.

 

Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball opened the season with an 86-65 win over Dominican at Shirk Center. Brady Rose led the Titans with 18 points. The Titans host a four-team tournament this weekend, facing Webster in a semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m.

 

Number 7 Kansas upset Number 1 Duke 77-75 on a Frank Mason bucket with under two seconds remaining.

 

Missouri Valley Conference men’s teams split on Tuesday. Indiana State beat Ball State 80-74 in overtime while Drake lost to UMKC 68-62. On the women’s side, Iowa State beat Northern Iowa 76-68 and UMKC edged Wichita State 56-54.

 

Illinois State men’s basketball opens the home season tonight against Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne. Tip-off is 6 p.m. at Redbird Arena.

 

In the Pontiac girls tournament, Washington defeated Pontiac 62-22 and Moline edged Eureka 48-45. At the Prairie Central girls Turkey Tourney, wins went to El Paso-Gridley, Fieldcrest and Prairie Central.

 

Illinois Wesleyan has its first volleyball first-team All-American. Outside hitter Tyler Brown will formally receive her recognition tonight in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on the eve of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

 

College football rankings keep Alabama on top after Numbers 2, 3 and 4 were upset on Saturday. Ohio State moves up to Number 2, Michigan 3 and Clemson 4.

 

The U.S. men’s national soccer team is now 0-2 in World Cup qualifying after losing a 4-0 rout to Costa Rica.
