The mystery behind letters left behind at the Livingston County War Museum – Dal Estes Education Center several years ago are slowly but surely being untangled.
Education Director David Estes was on the Community Forum November 9, explaining the letters and asking anyone in the community to respond if they knew anything of them. A response came shortly after the interview aired.
“Thanks to your broadcast and one of our Pontiac residents, Mrs. Patricia Tinges, she came up as soon as she heard it and said ‘I’m the one that brought that to the museum.’ And we naturally peppered her with a lot of questions and we have since found out that Alex Bell and Mr. Tinges, during World War II, were friends somehow,” Estes said.
Those letters and more information are being sent to Australia currently, and the Museum is waiting to hear back from them, along with the family of Alex Bell, who they were able to get in contact with. If anyone knows any more information about Bell’s connection with Pontiac, they are asked to call the Museum at 842-0301.
