Students at Prairie Central High School were kept about twelve minutes after dismissal at the end of the day Wednesday as police questioned a few students about a veiled threat.
Dr. John Capasso, superintendent for Prairie Central Schools, described it as a photograph of students holding what looked like guns, with a caption underneath. He said LivCom intercepted it and alerted Fairbury Police and school officials. Students were able to leave after the incident was cleared. Capasso gave students, school staff and faculty did well during the situation.
“It turned out to be a non-event, fortunately. I thought all school personnel reacted well. I thought the kids were cooperative. The staff was great. Principal and Dean of Students were right on the mark with their activity and reaction to the situation. It was appropriate. They secured the school and made sure everyone was safe for releasing the students. I’m satisfied with the outcome. I’m very sorry schools have to be concerned with things like this but, it is kind of this weird world we live in right now and things like this do happen, so we must deal with them, among other things,” Capasso said.
Students involved in the incident will be considered for school disciplinary actions, as well as those students and the one non-student involved may also face legal ramifications.
