The Fighting Illini host Detroit Mercy at 7 tonight as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Illini learned yesterday that center Jeremiah Tilmon of East St. Louis signed his letter of intent to play in Champaign. That lifts the Illini recruiting class to top 10 in the country and best in the Big Ten according to several scouting services.

 

Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball hosts the Frontier Communications Tip-Off tonight and tomorrow, taking on the Webster Gorloks in tonight’s second semifinal at 7.

 

Illinois State men’s basketball will play in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off next year.

 

Redbird legend Doug Collins goes into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame tonight. The induction ceremony is in Kansas City.

 

Illinois State women’s soccer visits Duke today for a 5 p.m. second round NCAA contest.

 

Illinois volleyball hosts Maryland tonight. Illinois State volleyball closes out the regular season at home this weekend. Northern Iowa visits Redbird Arena tonight followed by Drake tomorrow.

 

One year after receiving Rookie of the Year honors, Kris Bryant of the Cubs is the National League’s Most Valuable Player. Bryant was almost selected unanimously. Mike Trout of the Angels won the American League MVP for the second time.
The Carolina Panthers edged the New Orleans Saints 23-20 in the NFL Thursday night feature.

 

Houston dominated Number 5 Louisville 36-10 in yet another college football upset.

 

The Bulls won at Utah 85-77.

 

The Thunder host the Team USA 17s tonight and tomorrow night on U.S. Cellular Coliseum ice. Face-off is at 7 both nights.
